George Colar, known as Kid Sheik, was born on September 15, 1908, and is a New
Orleans jazz trumpeter and band leader. He started playing trumpet at 16,
influenced by Wooden Joe Nicholas and Chris Kelley. By 18, he led his own band
in New Orleans. During 1943, Kid Sheik served in the Air Force. Post-war, he
joined the Eureka Brass Band and Olympia Brass Band. His recording career began
in the 1960s, with the albums We Three Kings (1966), In The Groove (1966), and
