Catherine Louise Fink, also known as Kay Thompson, was born on November 9, 1908, in St. Louis, Missouri. She was an American singer, vocal arranger, and later author. She entered radio in the early 1930s, first appearing on the Bing Crosby Entertains broadcast in 1933 and later co-founding the Lucky Strike Hit Parade in 1935, where she met trombonist Jack Jenney. Her recording career began with a "Take a Number from One to Ten," recorded during a session with the Tom Coakley band in 1934.
