Kanda Bongo Man, born Bongo Kanda in 1955 in Inongo, Belgian Congo, is a
Congolese soukous musician. He started his career playing rumba music with a
local band in Kinshasa after leaving school at 18 and joined the Belle Mambo
band in 1973. After moving to Paris in 1979, he released his debut album Iyole
(1981). His discography included the albums Amour Fou (1984) and Kwassa Kwassa
(1989). His career featured notable performances at festivals like WOMAD in
