Francisco Ángel Bastar, known as Kako, was born on June 21, 1936, in Obrero, a
barrio of Santurce, San Juan, Puerto Rico. He began his career as a dancer
before becoming a percussionist, playing with bands led by Arsenio Rodríguez and
Tito Puente. In 1961, Kako released his debut album Kako y su Combo, Vol 1 for
Alegre Records, followed by Vol. 2 in 1962. He was a key member of the Alegre
All-Stars and its spin-off Cesta All-Stars, collaborating with Charlie Palmieri
on notable tracks like "Estoy buscando a Kako" and "Kako y Palmieri." In the
