Ryo Kagawa (born 21 November 1947, Hikone; died 5 April 2017, Tokyo) was a
Japanese folk singer-songwriter and a central figure in the Kansai folk-music
boom. While studying at Kyoto Sangyo University, Kagawa performed in cover bands
before composing original folk music influenced by Woody Guthrie. He gained
recognition at the 1970 Nakatsugawa Folk Jamboree with the anti-war anthem
"Kyokun I" ("Lesson I"). Kagawa’s recording career began with the album Kyokun
(1971), followed by Shin'ai Naru Q ni Sasagu (1972) and the live release Yaa
