Kundan Lal Saigal, born on April 4, 1904, in Nawa Shahar Jammu, India, was an
Indian singer and actor. He began his film career in 1932 with three Urdu films
directed by Premankur Atorthy. Kundan Lal Saigal gained prominence through roles
in Hindi films produced by New Theatres, including Chandidas (1934) and Devdas
(1936), where he played the title role. His singing style was refined under
composer Rai Chand Boral. In 1942, Kundan Lal Saigal moved to Bombay and worked
for Ranjit Movietone, starring in films like Bhakta Surdas (1942) and Tansen
