Judy Holliday, born Judith Tuvim on June 21, 1921, in New York City, was an
American actress, comedian, and singer known for her work in stage and film. She
began her career in December 1938 as a member of the cabaret group The Revuers.
Holliday’s breakthrough came with her role in the Broadway production Born
Yesterday (1946), which she later reprised in the 1950 film adaptation, earning
an Academy Award for Best Actress and a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress –
Motion Picture Musical or Comedy. She also won a Tony Award for starring in the
Broadway musical Bells Are Ringing a...
