Giuseppe Ottaviano Basile, known professionally as Joss Baselli, was born on
September 19, 1926, in Somain, France. He began studying music theory at age six
and started playing the accordion two years later. He then started playing at
the family café and joining competitions. Joss Baselli moved to Paris in 1950
and became a prominent figure on Philips Records. He accompanied artists such as
Patachou and Barbara and released albums under his stage name Jo Basile,
