Juan Manuel Cascales, also known as Johnny Richards, born on November 2, 1911,
in Toluca, Mexico, was an American jazz arranger and composer. He entered the
United States in 1919 with his family and began his musical career in Los
Angeles during the late 1930s. Richards' breakthrough came when he started
arranging for Stan Kenton's big band in 1950, contributing to notable albums
such as Cuban Fire! (1956) and Kenton's West Side Story (1961). He also led his
