John Gary, born John Gary Strader on November 29, 1932, in Watertown, New York,
was an American singer. He began his musical journey at age five and won a
three-year scholarship to the Cathedral School of St. John in Manhattan at nine.
Gary's early career included performances with Frank Pursley and appearances on
local television shows such as Midday on WDSU-TV in New Orleans. His
breakthrough came when he signed with RCA Victor, leading to his nomination for
