Joel Nascimento
Joel Nascimento is a Brazilian mandolinist and multi-instrumentalist who became
a central figure in the 1970s choro revival. Born in 1937, he was heralded by
historian Paul Sparks as a leading performer of the modern era. After founding
the ensemble Camerata Carioca, he toured with international masters including
John McLaughlin and Paco de Lucía, as well as Brazilian icons Raphael Rabello
and Arthur Moreira Lima. Landmark albums such as Chorando pelos dedos (1976),
Meu sonho (1978), and 2 em 1 (2006) capture his technical virtuosity. A
