Joe Roland, born on May 17, 1920 in the United States of America, was an
American jazz vibraphonist. He began his musical journey as a clarinetist,
attending the Institute of Musical Art from 1937 to 1939. Roland transitioned to
xylophone in 1940 and later to vibraphone, performing in New York City's jazz
clubs. Influenced by the bebop movement, he formed his own ensembles in the late
1940s and collaborated with notable figures such as Oscar Pettiford (1951) and
