Joe McPhee is an American jazz multi-instrumentalist born on November 3, 1939,
in Miami. He performs on tenor, alto, and soprano saxophone, as well as trumpet,
flugelhorn, and valve trombone. He achieved professional recognition for his
work in free jazz, beginning his recording career on the Clifford Thornton album
