Jerzy Jan Maksymiuk is a Polish composer, pianist, and conductor born on April
9, 1936, in Grodno. Maksymiuk studied at the Warsaw Conservatory under Piotr
Perkowski, Jerzy Lefeld, and Bogusław Madey. In 1964, Maksymiuk won first prize
in the Paderewski Piano Competition. He conducted at the Warsaw Grand Theatre
from 1970 to 1972. In 1972, he formed the Polish Chamber Orchestra, which later
changed its name to Sinfonia Varsovia. Maksymiuk received an award from the
