Jeanette Scovotti
Jeanette Scovotti was born on December 5, 1936, in New York City, and is an
American coloratura soprano. She started her career as a singer in the original
Broadway cast of Li'l Abner in 1956 and won the New York Singing Teachers'
Association contest in 1959. This led to her debut at the New York City Opera.
From 1962 to 1966, she was a regular performer at the Metropolitan Opera,
appearing in productions such as Ariadne auf Naxos. She also performed the role
of Tuptim in a concert version of The King and I with the Cleveland Pops
