Jay Livingston, born Jacob Harold Levison on March 28, 1915, was an American
composer best known for his songwriting partnership with Ray Evans. He studied
piano with Harry Archer in Pittsburgh and met Evans at the University of
Pennsylvania. The duo began writing together in 1937 and achieved their
breakthrough in 1946 with "To Each His Own", which reached Number 1 on the
Billboard charts for three different artists. Livingston and Evans composed
