Jan-Hendrik Rootering, born on March 18, 1950, in Wedingfeld near Flensburg, Germany, was a German opera singer known for his bass-baritone voice. His father, Hendrikus Rootering, a Dutch tenor, mentored him. During his vocal studies at the Musikhochschule Hamburg, Rootering performed smaller roles at the Staatsoper Hamburg and the Musiktheater im Revier in Gelsenkirchen. He debuted at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich in 1982 as Geisterbote in Die Frau ohne Schatten.
