Jale was a Canadian alternative rock band from Halifax, Nova Scotia. Formed in
1992 by four art school students—Jennifer Pierce on guitar, Alyson MacLeod on
drums, Laura Stein on bass guitar, and Eve Hartling on guitar—the group's name
is derived from the first letters of their first names. Jale quickly gained
traction as part of the Halifax Pop Explosion scene in the 1990s. Their debut
album, Dreamcake, was released by Sub Pop in 1994, featuring music videos for
