Jacques Gauthé, born on June 12, 1939 in Gaujac, Gers, France, was a French jazz
musician known for his skills as a saxophonist and clarinetist. He began playing
piano at five and took up the clarinet at eleven, inspired by Sidney Bechet.
Gauthé's professional career started in the 1950s with the Old Time Jazz Band de
Toulouse, which won the prize at the San Sebastian Jazz Festival. In 1968, he
moved to New Orleans, performing at venues like Preservation Hall and founding
The Creole Rice Yerba Buena Jazz Band. Notable albums include Echoes of Sidney
