Jackie Brenston
Jackie Brenston, born on August 24, 1928/1930, in Clarksdale, Mississippi, was
an American singer and saxophonist. He joined Ike Turner's band, the Kings of
Rhythm, in 1950 and recorded "Rocket 88" in March 1951, which reached Number 1
on the U.S. Billboard R&B chart. The song has often been cited as one of the
first rock 'n' roll records. Brenston pursued a solo career and performed with
Lowell Fulson’s band before rejoining Turner's group in 1955. He continued to
