Jack Ross
Jack Ross was born on 1 November 1916, and emerged as an American musician known
for rock and roll and novelty songs, whose career peaked in the early 1960s. An
early appearance on the West Coast as a trumpet soloist led to a 1950s 78‑RPM
single featuring two trumpet solos, and in 1960 he recorded an LP with the Dick
Lane Quartet that showcased swing standards. His breakthrough came in late 1961
when California label Dot Records released the single "Happy Jose (Ching‑Ching)"
backed with "Sweet Georgia Brown", with the title track entering the U.S.
