Leon Jerry "Jack" Guthrie, born November 13, 1915 in Olive, Oklahoma, was an
American singer. He moved to California in the mid-1930s and began his music
career performing on radio shows such as The Oke & Woody Show with his cousin,
Woody Guthrie. In 1945, Guthrie's rewritten version of "Oklahoma Hills" reached
Number 1 on the charts for 19 weeks. During this time, he was stationed in the
Pacific Theater with the U.S. Army. After his service, he continued to write and
record songs. Guthrie passed away on January 15, 1948 in Livermore, California
due to tuberculosis.
