Hörður Áskelsson, born on July 19, 1953 in Akureyri, Iceland, is an organist and
choir director. He studied music in Akureyri and Reykjavík before attending the
Robert Schumann University of Music in Düsseldorf from 1976 to 1981. After
graduating with distinction, Áskelsson served as an organist at the Neander
Church in Düsseldorf for a year. From 1982 until his retirement in 2021,
Áskelsson was the organist and cantor of Hallgrímskirkja. He founded a festival
