Harry Carney
Harry Carney, born Harry Howell Carney on 1 April 1910 in Boston, Massachusetts,
was an American jazz saxophonist and clarinetist. He began on piano at seven,
switched to clarinet at 14, and added alto saxophone a year later, eventually
mastering the baritone saxophone. Carney joined Duke Ellington’s orchestra in
1927. He recorded with Duke Ellington from that same year and became the
ensemble’s principal baritone player. He also released albums like Harry Carney
