Harold Herman Schaefer, known professionally as Hal Schaefer, was an American
jazz pianist and vocal coach, born on July 22, 1925, in New York City. Early in
his career, Schaefer played with notable bands including those led by Stan
Kenton, Benny Carter, and Dave Barbours' Four of a Kind. He also performed with
the big bands of Harry James and Boyd Raeburn. In 1955, his debut album was
