Gunther Emmerlich, who was born on September 18, 1944, in Eisenberg, Germany,
was an operatic bass and television presenter. After training as a concrete
builder and briefly studying civil engineering, he studied opera singing at the
Musikhochschule Franz Liszt Weimar from 1967 to 1972. He joined the Dresden
State Opera in 1972, making his debut as one of the three masks in Sergei
Prokofiev's opera Die Verlobung im Kloster. He remained a member of the ensemble
