Grant Maloy Smith, born August 28, 1957, in Jacksonville, Florida, is an
American singer-songwriter known for his contributions to American roots music.
Smith began playing guitar at a young age, initially performing songs by The
Beatles. His first band, Britannia, formed in 1981, played original music
written by Smith. Between 2008 and 2012, Smith released several pop/rock albums
under his own label, Small Dog Records, including Already August (2008), Big
Bowl of Courage (2010), American Merman (2011), and Mr. Sparklepants (2012). In
