Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band, an 18-piece jazz ensemble based in California, was founded in 1999 by Gordon Goodwin. The band combines big band swing with contemporary genres like funk and jazz fusion. Goodwin, who was working as a composer for Warner Brothers cartoons at the time, formed the group after being inspired by Count Basie's music at age 13.
