Giorgos Xylouris, also known as Psarogiorgis, born on September 25, 1965, in
Anogeia, Greece, is a notable Cretan laouto player and singer from a musical
family. He began playing the Cretan laouto at an early age under his uncle
Psarogiannis' guidance and performed with his father at village functions from
age eleven. Xylouris lived in Melbourne, Australia, for eight years, forming the
Xylouris Ensemble in the early 1990s. The ensemble's albums Antipodes (1998) and
Drakos (1999) were nominated for the ARIA Fine Arts Awards. He played the laouto
