Georghe Petrescu, known professionally as Gică Petrescu, was born on April 2,
1915, in Bucharest, Romania. He began his musical journey as a student at the
Gheorghe Șincai High School in Bucharest, where he sang and played guitar in a
student ensemble. He was discovered by the composer Ion Vasilescu, who helped
him launch his career on radio. In the late 1930s, Petrescu released several
singles, including "Să-mi dai batista ta la despărțire / Țigancă, mi-ai mințit
