Ghymes, a world music ensemble, was formed in 1984 at the Pädagogische
Hochschule in Nitra by musicians who previously focused on rock, classical, and
Renaissance music. Initially intended to provide accompaniment for a dance group
that never materialized, Ghymes began with traditional Hungarian folk music from
Siebenbürgen. The ensemble evolved into a concert-focused band by the 1980s,
incorporating elements like saxophone and drums alongside traditional
