Genesis
A long-running British band whose catalog includes progressive rock albums, pop
singles, and adult-contemporary hits, Genesis was formed in 1967 by Peter
Gabriel, Mike Rutherford, and Tony Banks, all of whom were students at
Charterhouse School in Godalming, Surrey. They were christened "Genesis" by
record mogul Jonathan King, who saw them playing at Charterhouse and signed them
to Decca Records. The band's 1969 debut, From Genesis to Revelation, failed to
chart in the UK, but Genesis hit its stride in the 1970s with releases like
