Eugene Booker McDaniels was born on 12 February 1935 in Kansas City, Kansas, and
emerged as a multifaceted American musician, performing as a singer, songwriter,
producer, saxophonist, and trumpeter. After honing his craft in the Southern
soul scene, Gene McDaniels released his debut album Sometimes I’m Happy
Sometimes I’m Blue on 2 September 1960, which established his presence on the
