The Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles, a choral group composed of queer persons
from the Los Angeles area, was established on July 12, 1979. The chorus began
rehearsals under Harold Kjellberg for their debut performance at the National
March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights later that year. Jerry Carlson
succeeded Kjellberg as Artistic Director in 1981 until his passing in November
1987, followed by Dr. Jon Bailey who served from 1987 to 2001. The chorus
