Arthur Terence Galt MacDermot, born December 18, 1928, was a Canadian-American composer, pianist, and musical theater writer best known for composing the music for the groundbreaking musical Hair (1967), which produced the chart-topping songs "Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In," "Good Morning Starshine," and "Hair." Born in Montreal, he studied music at the University of Cape Town, where he developed a lasting interest in African music.
