Funeral is a Norwegian doom metal band from Drammen. Formed in 1991 by Thomas
Angell and Anders Eek, the ensemble is recognized as a pioneer of the funeral
doom genre. The group released its debut demo, Tristesse, in 1993 and issued the
studio album Tragedies in 1995. In 1996, the band recorded material in England
and worked with acts including My Dying Bride and Anathema. Their subsequent
recordings included the albums In Fields of Pestilent Grief (2002), From These
