Friedrich Hollaender, also known as Frederick Hollander, was born on October 18,
1896 in London, was a German composer known for his work in film music. The son
of composer Victor Hollaender, he studied at the Stern Conservatory under
Engelbert Humperdinck and began composing for theater and revues in Berlin after
World War I. His breakthrough came with the score for The Blue Angel (1930),
directed by Josef von Sternberg, which included the iconic song "Falling in Love
