Friction, originally known as Maru Sankaku Shikaku, was formed in 1971 in Tokyo by bassist Reck, saxophonist Chico Hige, and drummer Sakuro Watanabe. The group is considered a pioneering force in Japan's alternative rock scene. In the mid-1970s, they changed their name to 3/3 and relocated to the United States, where Reck and Chico formed Teenage Jesus and the Jerks with Lydia Lunch and James Chance before returning to Japan. Renaming themselves Friction, they recruited guitarist Tsunematsu Masatoshi and released a live album in 1979, followed by Atsureki in 1980, produced by Ryu...
