Frederick Phillips, known professionally as Freddie Phillips, and born on August
2, 1919, was a classical guitarist and composer who began his career by
providing musical scores for short films by Lotte Reiniger and composing pieces
for television continuity. His breakthrough came with his involvement in
children's television programs, starting with A Rubovian Legend and later the
Trumptonshire trilogy: Camberwick Green, Trumpton, and Chigley. Phillips
composed individual songs for characters in these programs, as well as the title
