Frank Comstock, born on September 20, 1922, in San Diego, California, United
States, was a composer, conductor, trombonist, and arranger who began his career
without formal training, except for a few trombone lessons. He started writing
arrangements for local San Diego dance bands while still in high school. His
breakthrough came when he joined Sonny Dunham's nationally known dance band.
Comstock later worked with Les Brown from 1943 to 1955, contributing
significantly to the success of Les Brown and His Band of Renown. After leaving
