Lead singer of the iconic neo-progressive rock band Marillion from 1981 to 1988,
William Derek Dick aka Fish went on to pursue a sustained solo career. Born in
Edinburgh, Scotland, on April 25, 1958, he became interested in progressive rock
as a teenager, then worked at various manual jobs while auditioning for bands
looking for a singer. Nicknamed "Fish" by a friend because of the time he spends
taking his bath, he eventually joined the young band Marillion and played a part
in its success in the 1980s, making four studio albums and as many live ones.
