Fermin Muguruza Ugarte, born on April 20, 1963, in Irún, Guipúzcoa, Spain, was a
Basque musician, singer, songwriter, and producer. He began his musical journey
at age six, learning solfeo, acordeon, and guitar. In 1984, Muguruza founded the
group Kortatu with his brother Iñigo Muguruza and Mattin Sorzabalbere, later
replaced by Treku Armendáriz. Kortatu introduced ska and dub to the Spanish
music scene, releasing albums such as Kortatu (1985) and Kolpez Kolpe (1988).
After Kortatu disbanded, Muguruza formed Negu Gorriak with Iñigo and Kaki
