She began her singing career during World War II, performing at camps and hospitals. In 1953, Sanders recorded "The Song from Moulin Rouge" with the label credits shown as Percy Faith and his Orchestra, which reached Number 1 on both the Billboard and Cash Box record charts and was credited as the Number 1 song for 1953 by Billboard.
