Farida Khanum was born in 1929 in Amritsar, British India, and is a Pakistani
classical and ghazal singer. She began learning Khayal, Thumri, and Dadra from
Ustad Ashiq Ali Khan of the Patiala gharana at a young age. Her first public
concert was in 1950, followed by joining Radio Pakistan, where Khanum gained
recognition. A significant breakthrough came when Pakistan's president Ayub Khan
invited her to a public recital in the 1960s. Khanum was widely recognized for
