Fareed Haque, born in 1963 in Chicago, Illinois, is an American guitarist known
for his work in jazz and jazz rock. Raised by a Pakistani father and Chilean
mother, Haque traveled extensively as a child, exposing him to diverse musical
influences. He received a guitar scholarship from the University of North Texas
but left after a year to study classical guitar at Northwestern University.
Haque's career took off in the late 1980s when he was introduced to Sting by
saxophonist Paquito D'Rivera, leading to two albums on Pangaea Records: Voices
