Evelyn Davis, known professionally as Evelyn Knight, was born on December 31,
1917, in Reedville, Virginia. Between the late 1940s and 1950, Knight enjoyed a
successful seven-year chart run, scoring two Number 1 hits with "A Little Bird
Told Me" and "Powder Your Face with Sunshine (Smile! Smile! Smile!)" and
multiple Top 40 singles. Her recording debut, "Dance with a Dolly (With a Hole
in Her Stocking)", released by Decca Records in 1945, became a Top 10 hit. Among
