Ernest Aaron Freeman, born on August 16, 1922, in Cleveland, Ohio, is an
American musician known for his roles as a pianist, organist, bandleader, and
arranger. He began his musical journey at the age of 13, performing in local
clubs and forming The Evelyn Freeman Swing Band with his sister Evelyn. In 1942,
he led The Gobs of Swing, the first all-black Navy band. Freeman's career took
off in the 1950s when he played on numerous early rock and R&B sessions in Los
Angeles, including The Platters' "The Great Pretender" (1955). He released
