Eric Mingus
Eric Dolphy Mingus, born on July 8, 1964, in New York City, is an American blues
and jazz singer and composer. The son of bassist Charles Mingus and Judith
Starkey, he was named after musician Eric Dolphy. Mingus grew up in Upstate New
York, studied vocal performance and bass at the Berklee College of Music in
1985, and toured as a vocalist with Bobby McFerrin and Carla Bley. After
relocating to London in 1994, he formed a duo with trumpeter Jim Dvorak,
