Egil Johansen (January 11, 1934 – December 4, 1998), known as “Bop”, was a
Norwegian-Swedish jazz drummer, composer, and arranger. Born in Oslo, Johansen
began his professional career at age 16 in the Einar Stenberg orchestra. He
earned the nickname “Bop” for his performance in the bebop genre. In 1954,
Johansen moved to Sweden and collaborated with musicians including Arne
Domnérus, Bengt Hallberg, Georg Riedel, and Jan Johansson. Johansen performed on
the recordings Swinging in Sweden (1957), Quincy's Home Again (1958), and Jazz
