EAST END×YURI (East End Yuri) is a hip-hop unit formed in February 1994 by the hip-hop group EAST END and Yuri Ichii (YURI), which debuted in June of the same year with the mini-album “denim-ed soul” (1994). The group consisted of GAKU (MC), YOGGY (DJ), ROCK-Tee (DJ), and YURI (vocals). They popularized Japanese rap with an accessible, pop-oriented style; “DA.YO.NE” (1994) became the first Japanese hip-hop track to sell over a million copies, and “MAICCA ~ Maiikka” (1995) also became a million-seller and a massive hit.
